Mariastein
Mariastein is a place of pilgrimage - here a holiday is balsam for the soul.
Far away from the thrills, it lies at 575 m sea level, imbedded in copious, dense forests, framed by the Inn Mountains. With just 300 inhabitants, Mariastein is the smallest mountain community in the Kustein- region. It is well known as a place of pilgrimage. People from all over the world come into this little town, as also the famous way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela runs through Mariastein.
In summer Mariastein is the ideal place to go hiking or cycling. It is also perfect for a holiday with children: you find green fields, close bye swimming possibilities and deep forests.
In winter the biggest connected skiing area, the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental is just around the corner. But also off the slopes you will not get bored: guided snow-walks, hiking tours in the snow, sledging, horse drawn carriage rides and lots of other sport events are there for your entertainment.
Pilgrimage church Mariastein
There are 150 steps up to the Chapel of Mercy in the tower of the Mariastein church or pilgrimage. The climb is worth it though. Since the Middle Ages believers have come from far and away to see the famous gothic picture of the Virgin Mary.
