Summer on top of the Hohe Salve, Hopfgarten

A trip to the mountain top of the Hohe Salve is a real summit experience. Tyrol’s most beautiful vantage-point mountain is enthroned majestically over gentle mountain meadows.

Conquering the “Salve” is easy and comfortable – you simply take the cable car from Hopfgarten and enjoy the unforgettable view of the Alps: the Großglockner, the Großvenediger, the Hohe Tauern mountain range with 70 three-thousand-metre peaks, the Rofangebirge and the Wilder Kaiser mountains.
 
Hikers can look forward to beautiful, well signposted panoramic hiking paths in the Wilder Kaiser-Brixental mountain and adventure world as well as to the many rustic mountain huts where they will be indulged with good traditional cooking. There are 2 sections up to the Hohe Salve summit – 1.200 m difference in altitude in 20 minutes. The rotating panorama terrace and the newly designed “Sonnenweg” with a wind harp and sundials make your day perfect at Tyrol’s “Rigi”.

The popular pilgrimage church of John the Baptiste on the Hohe Salve was firstly mentioned in a register of Chiemsee from 1589. The early Baroque altar with St. Bartholomew and John as well as an altar painting which shows the baptism of Jesus dated back to the year 1666.
 
There is a short service at 11:00 am on every Wednesday, from the beginning of July until mid-September. One who can tell you more about the Salvenkirchlein, its history and the legend of it is the mountain innkeeper who will be pleased to share with you his knowledge of the magical “Wetterstein”, giants, witches and saints while his wife will show who are interested how to prepare professionally the Tyrolean delicacy “Kirchtags-Kiachl".
